Thanks to Joey @Thoughts and Afterthoughts for tagging me! (omg how do you manage to do so many so quickly?? lmao i still have five left to do )
Water — A book you simply cannot live without
Quite a recent read but I love it! (Especially Khalila Seif)
Food— A book that is a close second on your favourites list
Shelter — A book that makes you feel at home and safe
Flare Gun — A book you would recommend to someone who doesn’t read
Most people I know do read quite frequently but its usually harry potter to someone who doesn’t read. A friend of mine had never read them a few years ago until we badgered her to and now she loves it!
Matchsticks — A book that warms your heart
Maddy and Olly’s relationship is so damn cute.
Compass — A book that directed you towards your love of reading
Most likely The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine or the Darren Shan saga. They were one of the first books I encountered outside of Harry Potter and primary school reading groups. I remember reading Twilight the same time as Glass Houses, and I just sort of hovered towards MV more because I didn’t like Twilight.
And I tag: (Apologises if you’ve already completed the tag from another person, I usually choose people whose post I’ve read recently)
Hi everybody! Sorry you haven’t seen much of me for a while, my life’s been busy. I have my extended project essay due soon and I’ve decided to start my revision really early this year. But I will be making an effort to do more in the next year, especially when I finish my A-levels. I’ve got a couple of new reviews coming, and hopefully more stuff like this tag!
So, since I haven’t been doing much lately, I’ve decided to do this tag. I found it on 4evercrazyforya
1. Greed~ What is your most inexpensive book? What is your most expensive book?
The majority of the books I buy come from charity shops (thanks british heart foundation) or Amazon with those £00.01 books with like £2 shipping. So the most inexpensive book I’ve ever bought would most likely be The Boy in the Smoke by Maureen Johnson which was only £1 because it was sold for World Book Day.
Since most of my books are second hand or given to me as gifts, I think the most expensive book that was given to me was a hardback copy of My Sister Jodie by Jacquel
ine Wilson which was around £12.00? I remember asking my dad to buy it for me when I was ten-ish.
2. Wrath~ What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?
I liked the idea of The Mortal Instrument but I hated how the stories played out. I knew who Clare was from her fan fiction writing days and that partially put me off the entire series. The entire series really irritated me. Especially with the portrayal of gay relationships, people of colour and women.
3. Gluttony~ What book have you devoured over and over again with no shame?
The Name of The Star by Maureen Johnson.
I don’t even know why with this book. I just really liked it and have re read it so many times!! I loved how Maureen used the story of Jack the Ripper in this novel and created a really interesting ghost novel! Jack the Ripper is such a huge mystery and I loved learning about it in History during secondary school so when Charlieissocoollike and other youtubers were promoting this book in the UK stores at the time, my sister bought it for me. It’s one of my favourite and, despite its few minor flaws, I will read it again and again.
4. Sloth~ What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?
The Fifth Wave – I don’t even understand why it’s taken so so long to read this? I really like what i’ve read so far. Ever since I got my Kindle, I’m just just got used to reading with that instead because I liked to read on bus home from college and it’s easier carry a kindle than a paperback copy. Also this copy is an ARC. I found it in a charity shop, and I was really excited so i just bought it!
5. Pride~ What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?
I’m not sure about this one? I usually talk about books to my friends and we’re all interested in YA novels. And loads of people don’t see YA as an intellectual read. But if I had to choose one, it would probably be any Paulo Coelho or Khaled Hosseini book.
6. Lust~ What attributes do you find attractive in male characters?
Honestly that’s the problem I have with males in young adult novels. Authors romanticises them waay too much and they always seem to follow the same pattern. I especially hate that those “mean to the protagonist but doesn’t something vaguely nice so all is good.”It does work in some instances but sometimes they’ve done something so horrible I see no way to forgiving them and I find myself rolling my eyes so much and yelling at the main character to get herself the hell away from him? So basically my favourite attributes are when they are decent people, and funny. At the moment, my favourite male characters are Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games or Alex Colby from How To Say I Love You Out Loud orMinho from The Maze Runner.
7. Envy~ What book would you most like to receive as a gift?
The Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter because, oh my god, look how good it looks!!!
I’m not sure who to tag because I don’t know if they’ve already completed this tag. But if you want to do this tag, be sure to comment with yours so I can read it!!
A couple of months ago, Kristina posted a video called the Inside Out Book Tag and I thought it would be fun to do the same thing, but in a blog version rather than vlog. Inside Out is a Disney-Pixar movie which is about 5 different characters who represent 5 basic emotions that live inside the mind of a young girl. It was such a cute movie that’s so important and sends a great message about the role sadness playing in our lives, and how sadness is vital to our wellbeing.
For the book tag you are supposed to choose one book for each emotion. 1. JOY – Which book brings you the most joy? Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone by J.K. Rowling.
Harry Potter was probably a lot of people’s first book love. It was mine too. Whenever I read the books, it makes me so happy and even to this day I discover new things that my younger self skipped over.
2. DISGUST – Which book grossed you out the most? Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
Here’s a fun story for you all: I first read fifty shades originally not knowing a single thing about the book. I didn’t even know it was about BDSM book. I read an article title how it beat harry potter sales and I was so offended that I just downloaded the book and began to read it. And that’s the story of how I read my first (and last) erotica. This book is not an accurate or even remotely healthy relationship between two consenting parties. This book perpetuates rape culture and glorifies abuse. This book in one word? Ew. 3. FEAR – Which book scared you? Raven’s Gate by Anthony Horowitz.
Whenever I think of this book, I think of year 10 maths lesson. I know, weird? It’s only because it was during maths that my friend, Macushla, recommended this book to me. And I loved it! It’s so creepy and thrilling!
4. SADNESS – Which book made you cry the hardest? Me Before You by JoJo Moyes
I never cry at books. It’s a fact. I just don’t get that emotional over book. I do get sad but not to the point where I’m on the verge of tears. Although there are some problematic themes in this but damn this book had me in tears.
5. ANGER – Which book pissed you off? Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
I think the main reason this book made me mad is because I had such high expectations for this book. My anger really stems from the fact that there was SO MUCH potential with this, yet the implications with the storyline, and irritating characters made it so disappointing to read.
The Liebster Award is a way for members of the blogging community to recognize new bloggers/blogs. It is a fun way to support our fellow bloggers and create a sense of community. The rules seem to vary a little depending on who is giving the award but here are the basics:
Nominate ten blogs and let them know you have nominated them
Each nominee must have under 1000 followers
Provide a link to the blog that nominated you
Answer the questions that they have provided for you
Create ten new questions for the blogs that you have nominated
Create a post that includes all of this information
lol im fairly new to wordpress, so I dont follow many people and the people I do follow have already completed this challenge ://///
But I nominate anyone who wants to take part in this!
1. If you could choose any finished series to come out with one more book which series would you choose?
Penryn and the end of days by Susan Ee. I really didnt like the ending of End of days as I said in my review of the book I think the author wrote the first book, maybe vaguely planning for a series but uncertain if she wanted to write one. Then that book took off and suddenly she had to produce an actual series that she really hadn’t planned for. It was also changed from 5 books to 3 which I don’t mind but ending for the series was seriously unsatisfactory!!
2. If you could choose any series to become a television show which series would you choose?
This book isn’t in a series, but I would choose The Song Of Achilles by Madeline Miller (link goes to my review of the book). I absolutely loved this book, I’m currently taking Classical Civilisation and starting A2 at the time of writing this. For the first year we read and analysed The Iliad by Homer. Patroklos was one of my favourite characters, and this book is from his POV about the events leading up to the Trojan War and his presumed relationship with the hero Achilles. I would prefer to see this book become a TV series than a movie as there’s so much detail in this book.
If I had to choose a series, I would choose The Shades of London by Maureen Johnson. The Name of the Star is one of the favourite books which takes a new spin on the tale of Jack the Ripper, with the main character coming to terms with her supernatural abilities. Definitely, recommend!
3. Which character do you think was poorly cast in a movie based on a book? And who would you have cast instead?
As much as I love Kevin Zegers as an actor, I didn’t like that he was cast as Alec in The City of Bones he appeared too broody and old for Alec. I’m not a fan of The Mortal Instruments anymore (but I do intend to watch ABC’s Shadowhunters). I have no opinion on who I would have liked instead but I would have preferred to have an actor who is gay play Alec, which would be excellent for representation!
4. Which character death was the hardest to deal with and why?
I know people will find this weird but I don’t get extremely upset over deaths in books?? I mean, I feel sympathetic but I’ve never really found a characters death hard to deal with?? (I hope that makes sense)
5. If you could spend the day in any fictional world which world would it be?
The Harry Potter Universe (I want my damn owl, accurate housing place, and wand!!)
6. Imagine that you can have any fictional character “guest star” in a fictional world other than its own. Which character would you choose? Which world would you have them appear in? Why?
I’m not sure! I think everyone fits fine in their actual book universe and I can’t think of anything one I would want to move and appear in another.
7. Which character do you most identify with?
I know this sounds weird but I don’t really identify with characters, I have many favourite characters and there are certain aspects of them that I also share with them but there’s not one character I could identify myself with.
8. If you could choose any book or series to come out with a companion cookbook that contained recipes for food and drinks mentioned in the book which would you choose?
Probably, the Harry Potter universe, it would be amazing to see how the sweets and foods are created. (fun fact – not really – but I’ve bought bertie botts every flavoured jelly beans from a candy store in Brighton once and it was disgusting, I’m not joking, each one tasted like a stink bomb)
9. If you could choose any book or series to be turned into a video game which would you choose?
Either, Harry Potter (you can tell I’m a HP fan right??- and yes I know there is already HP games) but instead of being through harry’s POV, I would want it be from the player’s own character and how they react to the events that happen in the book. (I’m really bad at explaining but I saw a Tumblr text post about it.) OR Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige!
10. If you could choose any supporting character to get their own book or series who would you choose?
Fred and George Weasley because who wouldn’t want a series about them??? or Paige (Penryn’s sister) from Penryn and the end of days because so much happens to her that wasn’t clearly explained in the series!!
Your favourite past-time.
The 3 wishes you’d make if you get Aladdin’s Lamp.
One place where you’d like to travel to.
Which songs do you like listening to when you are working on a blog post?
One skill you’ll love to acquire and why.
Where do you get the ideas for your blog posts?
What is the best feedback you have ever gotten on a blog post?
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
What is your greatest joy in life?
Do you ever get “writer’s block,” and, if so, how do you deal with it?
Thank you to Brittany for nominating me!
