Review Policy

I’m currently limiting the review requests I accept due to being in my final year of university. Any projects I’ve responded to are unaffected by this change.

What type of book do you read?

I read a variety of genres and concepts. I enjoy science fiction, fantasy, contemporary, romance, non-fiction and historical fiction.

I started my site as a teen so a lot of my reading choices were young adult, but I’m looking to expanding my reading choices and would love to read more non-YA fiction.

Here are some of my all-time favourite books. For series, I’ve only included the first book to not overwhelm the page.

Creating this request page is difficult because I’m not a picky person. My decision to read a certain book is: if it sounds good, then I’ll try it out.

I especially encourage writers of diverse fiction to feel more than free to contact me. I want to make a better effort to read books with PoC/disabled and LGBTQ+ protagonists, as well as books by other #OwnVoices authors.

However, I am NOT accepting books in the following genres:

  • Biographies/memoirs
  • Erotica

Formats I accept

  • physical copy (no preference of type)
  • mobi/epub (I read on my Fire and phone)

I am an avid user of NetGalley and I am registered with the account email:

Accepting books and when do you post reviews?

I like to post at least twice a week, and in advance, so unless you require a certain post date, there can be up to a month delay between me reading a book and the post date of the review.

If I accept a book for review, that will most likely guarantee a review. (I will reply to your email when I accept the request) And if you have a certain release date: I will make every effort to read and review in a good time and with regard to release dates.

I will write a review for almost every book I finish. I write fair reviews, but this does not mean I will always write positive reviews. My reviews are my opinion, and if I don’t enjoy a book then my review will reflect that. I will try to explain why the book in question did not work for me personally. By sending a review request to me, you are acknowledging that a review may be negative.

I should note that any book I read, even if I think it’s one of the best things I’ve read, will most likely have something negative- but not like horribly negative. I might just point out certain things I didn’t like. (certain arc, characters, language maybe…) Of course, I’m no professional, just a person who likes to write. But all reviews are my own opinions. I judge the work, so please, don’t hate on me if I ever give any of your books a negative review.

Personally, I don’t like to put a book down as ‘DNF’, especially when it’s an ARC. Only in extreme cases will I ever put a book down as DNF and will state why I did not finish the book, what page I read up to, and if I plan on finishing the book.

Star Rating:

I use the Goodreads star rating. Goodreads uses a 5 star rating system however I’ve tweaked the definitions slightly:

1 star – I hated it

2 stars – I didn’t like it – may have 1 redeeming quality (writing style, a certain character, etc).

3 stars – It was okay but could’ve been better. Honestly, this is a neutral rating for me, personally.

4 stars – really liked it, it has at least a couple interesting qualities. Only a few limitations noted.

5 stars – I loved it! Maybe a new favourite! Only minor limitations noted.

All reviews are cross-posted to multiple websites, these include Goodreads, and Amazon, and this blog.

Are you open for anything else?

I’m more than happy to host author interviews, giveaways, and other promotional events, but sometimes may have to decline due to lack of time. I often prefer to reach out when I come across but honestly, this is a case-to-case basis, but feel free to reach out to me if you feel like I would be interested.

I can be contacted for reviews or questions at

On Goodreads, I review under the name Zaheerah
You can follow me on Twitter as @zaheerahkhalik

If you have followed my guidelines and you have NOT heard from me, I apologise but I can’t respond to every request, only the ones I will accept. But I’m very honoured you want me to read your book. I’m not paid to blog or review books. I think anyone wishes they were, but I’m not. Just a girl who loves to talk about the books I’m passionate about.

  1. Hello there, I think your blog could possibly be having internet browser compatibility problems. Whenever I look at your website in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in I.E., it has some overlapping issues. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other than that, excellent blog!|

  2. Hi Zaheerah,
I just tried emailing you for a book review request, but it bounced back as undeliverable. I see on your Twitter that you have recently registered , and I wonder if maybe that is causing some conflict with your email setup.
